A Guide to Weddings at the Mayor’s Parlour
Getting married at Gibraltar City Hall is one of the most popular ways for couples to tie the knot on the Rock.
With its historic architecture, elegant ceremony room, and central location, it offers a beautiful and simple setting for an unforgettable wedding.
As a Gibraltar wedding photographer, I regularly photograph ceremonies here and know the best locations nearby for relaxed and natural wedding portraits.
The Mayor’s Parlour Ceremony
Most civil weddings in Gibraltar take place in the Mayor’s Parlour inside City Hall. The room is elegant, intimate, and perfect for smaller wedding groups.
Ceremonies are usually short and relaxed, typically lasting around 10–15 minutes. Many couples travel to Gibraltar specifically for the simplicity of the process, making it an ideal destination wedding location.
The moment you walk out of City Hall after the ceremony is often one of the most joyful parts of the day. Friends and family gather outside, and the steps of the building make a lovely spot for congratulations, hugs, and a few celebratory photos.
Wedding Photo Locations Near City Hall
One of the best things about getting married at City Hall is how many great photo locations are within walking distance.
John Mackintosh Square
Right outside City Hall is John Mackintosh Square, which offers a classic Gibraltar backdrop. The square has a relaxed atmosphere and is perfect for a few natural photos just after the ceremony.
Commonwealth Park Gardens
Just a short walk from Gibraltar City Hall, the Commonwealth Park gardens offer a simple and elegant green space in the heart of the town.
With its well-kept lawns, palm trees, and open walkways, it provides a relaxed setting for natural wedding portraits right after the ceremony. The soft light in the late afternoon works particularly well here, making it an ideal first stop for couples who want quick, effortless photos without travelling far.
It’s a great location for candid moments, small group portraits, and a few quiet couple images before heading on to other locations such as the waterfront or Botanical Gardens.
Gibraltar Botanical Gardens
Just a short drive away are the Botanical Gardens, one of the most beautiful portrait locations in Gibraltar. The gardens offer greenery, pathways, and quiet corners that work wonderfully for relaxed couple portraits.
Many couples choose to visit the gardens immediately after the ceremony for a short portrait session.
Ocean Village and the Marina
If couples would like something more modern, the marina around Ocean Village offers colourful boats, waterfront views, and a vibrant atmosphere that works well for relaxed wedding photos.
